Shining her light through dance
Year 8 student Kate Power performed in the Australian Ballet Company’s production of Nutcracker at the Melbourne Arts Centre in September.
Kate, who has been dancing since she was only 4 years old, was a child extra in what is regarded as one of the most famous ballets of all time and, according to the Australian Ballet Company, the "original toy story". Over two weeks, she performed every second evening and loved every moment. In 2011, Kate will attend the Australian Ballet Company School fulltime and she dreams of travelling the world doing what she so clearly loves – dancing!
Kate said the School has supported her rehearsal and performance schedule by “being patient and giving me some extensions”, but what is remarkable about this young woman is that she is not only passionate about her dancing, she is also completely modest about her achievements and takes everything in her stride.
