Focus Goal

Five Sacred Heart Goals of Sacred Heart Education

Each year the Sacré Cœur community confers a particular emphasis on one of the five Sacred Heart Goals of Sacred Heart Education. This annual goal is known as the Focus Goal. Each of the goals is addressed over a five year cycle. The sixth year in the cycle is proclaimed a ‘Year of Reflection', a time when the Sacré Cœur community engages in an extensive examination and celebration of its Sacred Heart character.

Even though there is a special accent on the annual Focus Goal, the community continues its commitment to ‘living out' each of the goals every year.

The Principal and the school Ethos Committee are entrusted with the responsibility of being the custodians of the ‘Sacred Heart Ethos' within the school, in particular, ensuring that each year's Focus Goal is ‘lived out' actively by the school community.

2009 Focus Goal - Building Community as a Christian Value

This year's focus goal challenges each of to make a conscious decision to be active in the building of community. Not only building community here at Sacré Cœur; but also building community in our local area; building community with our state; building community within our country; and building a community globally.

St Paul's letter to the Romans (chapter 12) offers Christians some guiding principles as to how to build community.  He states that we should

•       rejoice in hope and be positive

•       show patience in suffering

•       be passionate - embrace fully living in community

•       show empathy, in word and action, with the less privileged

•       be forgiving and merciful - not revengeful

•       be compassionate - "weep with those who weep"

•       do good acts

•       love each other with love which is sincere

Our challenge is to embrace these qualities and to hold on and to share the Sacré Cœur spirit of Cor Unum - One heart with the heart of Jesus - To build a community of love.
