Building our community
Sacré Cœur was established in 1888 and we have many thousands of women who have passed through the gates and walked up our historic Brown Stairs - as boarders, day students and staff.
The Sacré Cœur Alumnae Association (formerly known as the Sacré Cœur Old Girls' Association) was established at the start of the 20th century and each year our community grows.
This website is dedicated to our alumnae and will bring news and photographs of events reunions. We hope you enjoy your visit.
Membership
Membership is drawn from past pupils who had spent at least the final two years of their schooling at the earliest houses of the school, briefly at "Hiawatha", Balaclava, and "Clifton" (a day school established by the rscJ and later closed), Malvern and then from 1888 onwards from those at Burke Road, Glen Iris - a boarding and day school.
Recent amendments to the constitution have broadened the eligibility base to include any pupil who has attended the school or who has attended any another Sacré Cœur school or institution .
Members live in Victoria and Australia wide, as well as internationally.
Objects of the Association
The objects of the Association as stated in the constitution are to "bring its members into closer touch with one another, to maintain a spirit of loyalty to their old school and to assist in works of charity'.
These objects are interpreted and applied in more relevant ways today, in keeping with the goals and values of modern Sacré Cœur life.
Organisation of the Association
The Association is a non- profit organisation, managed by a committee of fifteen members.The current committee is drawn from a range of age groups and represents diverse interests while sharing common goals.
Activities
The association organises a number of activities including masses for living and deceased alumnae. Social and sporting activities are organised, including a speaker‘s luncheon, film nights, soirees, netball competitions and golf and tennis competitions. A small choir meets occasionally for masses and chapel events. Encouraging reunions forms an essential part of the association's activities.
The Janet Stuart Bursary
The Janet Stuart Bursary Fund, named after Mother Janet Stuart rscJ, was established by the Alumnae Association to provide financial assistance to enable children and grand children of Alumnae experiencing financial difficulty to attend Burke Road. A separate committee administers the fund. Funds for the Bursary are drawn from donations from the Association, from members and others. The daughters and grand-daughters of alumnae from any Sacré Cœur school around the world are eligible to apply for this financial assistance.
Links with the School
The Association enjoys close links to the School. Masses, luncheons, meetings and many reunions are regularly held at the school.

Communications
Members receive the Burke Road Bulletin from the school which is published twice per year. This contains Alumnae material including the births, deaths and marriages and reports of reunions and other events, as well as up-to-date school information.
